The fabric wrap looks somewhat similar to cloth medical tape in material

clinical looking dark green box with silvery white print and one initial--"H" for horse in this case

The interior is clean and in excellent shape

which looks to have been cut from a cigar box

and the figure in front along with him

Perhaps she was once inset into the lid of a patch or bonbon box, I'm not certain. Hand colored woodcut, under glass, with gilded paper border. c. 1830s. 2 3 4" x 1 3 4". Tear to to paper as evident from upper right diagonal, and general wear but stable and sound and I think very lovely.
