The stone is a greenish gray

On the reverse it is signed by a David Schultz in blue ink and dated 1860--(along with numbers running 1-9 first forwards then backwards)--suggesting perhaps that its maker was in fact David and perhaps that it was made to mark the birth or life of Abraham

I have a vague recollection of seeing this wonderful fish tureen for sale at Bennington Potters sometime in the 80s

which are very indicative of the rest
