Sweet Old Whittled, Jointed Man with Newsboy Cap 1917 carving I'd guess this piece dates

I'd guess this piece dates to the mid 20th century

especially as I’ve never seen one like it before

They are quite substantial in thickness and weight

On the bottom of the front is again embossed the artist name in English and Japanese

this feels like a museum piece

He was for sure lovingly done, from that great cap (with a rather chimney like post on top, which almost seems like it might one have had held a propeller!) to the buttons down his front, to his little pants pocket, which looks a bit like a holster. He is fairly light in weight and seems perhaps to have been carved from driftwood, with the
